Message from the Executive Director

Welcome to Yukon University's Northern Institute of Social Justice (NISJ), part of the Continuing Studies: Workforce & Business Development division.

A northern-focused and collaborative approach is at the heart of the NIJS.

We work with developers and instructors to create or adapt courses in response to emerging issues or to meet organization-specific needs.

Our training courses and awareness sessions are developed and delivered by instructors with frontline experience in Yukon from a wide range of disciplines and fields in the private, public, non-government, and post-secondary sectors. Our students include:

  • frontline and other workers in a wide variety of fields and organizations, who come together to explore relevant, practical and innovative strategies and solutions for working with clients and communities in ways that respect and reflect the Yukon context;
  • members of the public who have been appointed to quasi-judicial boards and tribunals in the Yukon and are seeking administrative justice training; and
  • members of the public who have a personal or professional interest in a particular area.

The institute also works with other training organizations such as the Crisis and Trauma Resource Institute (CTRI), based in Winnipeg, to deliver some of their courses in Yukon. CTRI works with Yukon-based instructors as well instructors from other jurisdictions.

Yukon University provides leadership in northern education by connecting with communities, First Nations, local governments, business and non-government organizations. NISJ is pleased to contribute to this vibrant learning community by offering training courses and awareness sessions that address northern issues, cultures and context.

We look forward to learning and working with you.
