PHOT CE02 - Digital Camera Photography: Capture and Create

By the end of this course, participants will:
- Learn to use the camera’s various settings like aperture, shutter speed, and ISO.
- Gain a basic understanding of different types of cameras (DSLR, Mirrorless) and lenses (wide-angle, telephoto, prime) and how to choose the right one for specific situations.
- Understand the rule of thirds, leading lines, framing, and Symmetry: Techniques for creating visual interest and guiding the viewer’s eye.
- Learn to achieve sharp focus in specific areas while blurring out the background
- Understand natural light and artificial lighting
- Practice framing, composition and adapting to different lighting conditions.
- Be introduced to basic photo edit tools (like Lightroom) to make adjustments to exposure, contrast, and color balance, as well as to crop and straighten images for better composition.
- Build confidence and begin to develop a personal style
To get the most out of this course, please bring:
- A digital camera (DSLR or mirrorless preferred — smartphones and iPhones are not suitable for this class)
- A laptop or tablet for uploading and editing photos
- Chargers and connection cables for both your camera and laptop/tablet
- Access to your camera’s user manual (printed or digital version)
- You may be asked to download a free trial of Adobe Lightroom (desktop version). Don’t worry if you’re new to editing — we’ll guide you through the basics step-by-step. Instructions will be provided in class.
Dress for the weather — some classes will include outdoor shooting sessions!
