March 6: New collective agreement approved

Dear Students,

I am pleased to share that this afternoon the Yukon University Board of Governors approved a new Collective Agreement for unionized employees. This follows the ratification vote by Employees’ Union membership on March 5th.

You can view the full news release on our news site.

We are grateful that all parties were able to reach an agreement and avoid a strike. The semester will continue without disruption after the spring break.

We also thank students for their engagement and interest in this important topic. Contributions by student leaders through Senate to inform the academic disruption plan were very valuable and will help shape future policy work.

I’d like to share a short statement on behalf of the Student Union:

"I welcome the stability this new agreement will bring to students across all Yukon University campuses. During this period of uncertainty, the Student Union worked closely with university leadership and governance bodies to ensure that student concerns were represented and that academic continuity remained a priority. I commend both bargaining teams for reaching a resolution and recognizing the importance of protecting students’ learning and wellbeing.”

-- Mandeep Singh, President, Yukon University Student Union

On behalf of the University Administration, I wish you a restful spring break.
