Intended for frontline workers who encounter clients dealing with Intimate Partner Violence in their lives and members of the general public who may be neighbours, friends or family members of people subjected to Intimate Partner Violence, this webinar will explore the basics of intimate partner violence.

Topics covered will include:
• The importance of understanding the gendered realities of Intimate Partner Violence
• The dynamics of Intimate Partner Violence
• Typologies and tactics
• What makes some women more vulnerable than others
• Coercive control
• Cycle of abuse
• Why women stay and return
• Post-separation abuse
• Tech abuse
• How to recognize and respond to Intimate Partner Violence

This interactive webinar will use an intersectional feminist analysis/framework, recognizing that, men, trans and non-binary folx can be victims of Intimate Partner Violence, the victims of the most serious forms of coercive controlling and physical violence, including lethal violence, are people who identify as women.

Future webinars in this series will examine both family and criminal law responses to intimate partner violence.
