FASD CE01 - FASD for Frontline Workers

Developed and delivered by Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Society Yukon (FASSY) in 2025, this new training program is designed to equip social service providers in the Yukon with essential knowledge and skills to support individuals affected by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). The course covers foundational knowledge, identification and assessment, intervention strategies, and specialized topics.

Training Structure:
• Core Foundations & Best Practices – Understanding key principles and methodologies in social services.
• Practical Applications – Engaging in scenario-based learning, role-playing, and case studies.
• Advanced Skills & Problem-Solving – Addressing complex challenges, ethical considerations, and innovative solutions.
• Review & Certification – Reflecting on key takeaways, assessing knowledge, and certification upon completion

The course combines lectures, group discussions, hands-on activities, case studies, and role-playing exercises to provide a well-rounded learning experience. Participants will gain both theoretical knowledge and practical tools to enhance their effectiveness in the field.

Note: Learning objectives will be refined based on survey results to ensure relevance to participants’ needs.

This course is designed for:

  • Professionals and paraprofessionals working in social services and related fields in the Yukon. It is especially relevant for social workers, community support workers, child welfare staff, mental health and addictions counselors, youth workers, and family support providers.
  • Educators, healthcare professionals, justice system personnel, and nonprofit staff who support individuals and families affected by FASD will also benefit. Students and new practitioners in these fields are encouraged to attend.

Participants should be seeking practical tools, applied strategies, and a deeper understanding of how to effectively support individuals impacted by FASD in their daily work.
