New, Lower-risk beyond visual line-of-sight (BVLOS) and Sheltered operations, Extended visual line-of-sight (EVLOS) operations and Medium drones within VLOS

This 29.5-hour course provides the fundamentals of drone technology, including design, operation, and navigation, equipping students with the essential knowledge to operate Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) safely and effectively.

This will set pilots up to conduct the new operations under an operating certificate to open more opportunities for drone use in remote areas. It allows larger drones up to 150kgs as well as extended BVLOS operations for mapping, survey and search and rescue applications etc.

Students completing the course will earn a 20-hour of training credits for completion of a Transport Canada-accredited program.

· 20-hour ground school training related to TP155330 · Other relevant topics not required by Transport Canada TP15530

· 8 hours for other subjects. This also includes documentation and online topics

· Introduction to NavCanada App and flight space approval.

· DJI Unlock Procedures

· Completion of the Level 1 Complex RPAS/Drone Exam. (Transport Canada Online)

· Additional preflight training using DJI Drones or your own, if acceptable.

· Completion of Transport Canada-accredited RPAS Level 1 Complex Operations Flight Review.
PREREQUISITES:
· Students must be 18 years of age for the issuing of the Level 1 Complex Operations Certificate.

· Student must have successfully completed the advanced written Exam.

· Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status required.

· A Special Flight Operating Certificate is required for a foreign pilot. This is a formality, and Yukon University’s instructor will assist students who fall into this category.
