Perspectives Series

Yukon University and Yukon Government are partnering to explore the past, present and future of Yukon’s unique approach to self-governance and land claims.

First Nations land claims and self-government are an incredibly important part of Yukon’s history, current governance and our future.

There are so many stories of leadership, creativity, bravery and resilience that need to be told. These anniversaries are huge milestones for the territory and they are an opportunity to reflect on our past, present and future.

Together Today for Our Children Tomorrow

2018 marks the 45th anniversary of Together Today for Our Children Tomorrow and the 25th anniversary of the Umbrella Final Agreement and the first four Final and Self-Government Agreements.

Events

POSTPONED. NEW DATE WILL BE ANNOUNCED SHORTLY.

We are sorry to announce that due to unforeseen circumstances the February 20 event has to be rescheduled.

Tuesday, February 20th from 12pm to 1pm
Yukon Government Main Administration Building,  2071 2nd Avenue, Whitehorse

Like the first Perspectives Series event that was held on January 30th, this event will once again focus on Together Today for Our Children Tomorrow.

This important document was presented to the Prime Minister of Canada, 45 years ago, in 1973. It articulated Yukon First Nations grievances and called for a settlement between the federal and First Nations Peoples.  Together Today for Our Children Tomorrow was accepted by the Prime Minister and it formed the basis for the negotiation of Yukon’s land claim agreements.

We will speak with elders Percy Henry and others about what it was like to present Together Today for Our Children Tomorrow 45 years ago. We’ll ask them about what went in to the development of this document and how it has changed the Yukon today.

Tuesday, January 30, 2018 from 12pm to 1pm
Yukon College, 500 College Drive, Whitehorse
