YukonU launches career-ready Medical Office Assistant Certificate to empower Yukon communities

Yukon University has updated and relaunched its Office Administration Program now featuring three streamlined certification paths, including a brand new Medical Office Assistant option beginning Fall 2025.
All three certificate programs offer extensive flexibility for students looking for a career as a skilled administrative professional:
- Administrative Assistant
- Financial Assistant
- Medical Office Assistant (new 2025)
Students can complete their certification in just nine months.
The refreshed Office Administration curriculum was developed with engagement with Yukon communities and in collaboration with the Government of Yukon and Northern employers, including in the health sector for the brand new Medical Office Assistant certificate, to ensure graduates gain practical skills aligned with current workforce needs. The new medical office assistant certificate addresses specific gaps in Yukon’s health services staffing.
“This program is more than just an updated curriculum—it’s a direct response to the voices of our service providers, health related businesses and Northern communities,” said Dr Shelagh Rowles, Provost of Yukon University. “We are committed to listening to our partners in the health sector and responding directly to their needs. We heard the need for accessible, meaningful training that leads to real opportunities, and that’s exactly what we’ve built.”
With a focus on accessibility for Indigenous learners, YukonU is also working with the health sector, First Nations governments and community partners to promote the program and support student success.
“These certificate streams will empower students to step into vital roles in their communities, support local industries, and help shape a stronger, more resilient North,” says Dr. Ninad Dhawle, Chair of the School of Business and Leadership at Yukon University.
Registration for Office Administration certifications is open, with course selection beginning June 9.
