WHITEHORSE, YT—This year, Yukon University students have access to over $53,000 in financial support thanks to the generosity of donors across the Yukon and Canada. The application deadline for $31,000 in student awards is October 3, with a further $22,000 available in the winter semester with an application deadline of January 31.

Financial awards contribute to various educational, research and living costs borne by students during their studies. Awards can be open to all students or specific to a course of study. They can be based on academic or personal achievement, or financial need, along with other specialized criteria

Since the Yukon University Foundation was established in 2015, the total annual amount available to students has almost doubled from $28,400.

Awards available this Fall include the $1,000 kobayashi + zedda architects ltd. Bursary which is awarded to women enrolled fulltime in a YukonU trades program, the $500 Journey of Hope scholarship for full or part time Indigenous students, and the $2,000 Lorene Robertson Writing award for full or part time students enrolled in University Access Pathways.

"As a student who lives in a remote community outside of Whitehorse with a high cost of living, I am grateful to have been chosen to receive this support over the past two years at this crucial time in my life when I have limited student income to contribute to my family’s bills and household expenses,” said Shannon O’Hara, Indigenous Governance degree student and recipient of the Community of Support Bursary.

“The wide variety of student awards available speaks to the kindness of our community, and their belief that education changes lives. I’m grateful to the individuals, families, businesses, organizations and YukonU employees who contribute to the success of our learners—the bold, confident leaders of today, tomorrow and for generations to come,” said Blake Buckle, Associate Vice-President, Advancement.
