Yukon College hosts Gwynne Dyer to speak on Climate Wars

The Yukon Research Centre of Excellence (YRCE) at Yukon College will be hosting internationally acclaimed writer and social activist Gwynne Dyer, to speak on his latest book “Climate Wars”.

Gwynne Dyer has worked as a freelance journalist, columnist, broadcaster and lecturer on international affairs for two decades. His most recent project includes a book and radio series titled, “Climate Wars”. This subject deals with the geopolitics of climate change.

One of the main objectives of YRCE is to provide the general public with information on climate change. “YRCE is committed to addressing climate change through adaptation, mitigation and providing Yukoners with valuable information from academics like Gwynne Dyer”, said Dr. Chris Hawkins, vice president, Research.

After speaking in Whitehorse, Dyer will travel to Dawson City and provide a second public lecture free of charge, compliments of Yukon College.

The event takes place on Thursday, April 21st from 7 to 9 PM at the Yukon Arts Centre. Tickets are $10 for the general public and $5 for students and seniors. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the YC Endowment fund for student awards and bursaries. The presentation will be followed by a question and answer session with the audience.

The Yukon Research Centre of Excellence (YRCE) is a research and innovation centre at Yukon College that brings together several programs and services with the common goal to develop collaborative research and innovation important on climate change in the North. Current Programs include: The Northern Research Institute, The Yukon Cold Climate Innovation Centre, The Yukon Technology Innovation Centre, The Northern Climate ExChange, Yukon Innovators in the Schools, and The Social Economy Research Network of Northern Canada
