Personal Safety Tips
Safety is everyone's responsibility. Follow these simple practices to help keep yourself and others safe on campus.

In an Emergency
  • Call 911 immediately if there is an immediate threat to life or safety and also let Safety and Security Services know.
  • Contact Safety and Security Services for non-emergency security assistance.

Stay Safe on Campus
  • Be aware of your surroundings at all times.
  • Know your nearest emergency exits.
  • Know who to contact in an emergency.
  • Walk with confidence and remain alert.
  • Never prop open locked doors.
  • Limit interactions with strangers.
  • Keep your car or residence keys readily accessible.
  • Avoid isolated or poorly lit areas whenever possible.
  • Let someone know where you are and when you expect to return.
  • Use safety mirrors to check around blind corners.
  • If you find a used needle, do not touch it. Contact Safety and Security Services immediately.
  • Trust your instincts. If you feel unsafe or believe you are being followed, go to a populated area and call Safety and Security Services.

If You Feel Threatened
If you believe you are in a dangerous situation:
✔️ Stay calm and speak clearly.
✔️ Try to de-escalate the situation if it is safe to do so.
✔️ Leave the area immediately when it is safe.
✔️ Yell, scream, or make noise to attract attention.
✔️ Defend yourself only as a last resort to protect your safety.
