Hazardous Materials Spill

A hazardous materials spill may involve chemicals or other dangerous substances that pose a risk to health and safety. Do not attempt to clean up a spill unless you are trained and authorized to do so.

If You Discover a Hazardous Materials Spill

  • Stay away from the spill and warn others in the area.

  • Notify Safety and Security Services or your instructor/supervisor immediately.

  • Move to a safe location and follow instructions.

  • After hours: Call the Yukon Spill Report Line (867-667-7244) and then notify Safety and Security Services.

If a Chemical Fire Occurs

  • Activate the nearest fire alarm.

  • Use a fire extinguisher only if the fire is small and you are trained to do so.

  • Evacuate the building following emergency evacuation procedures.

  • Close doors behind you if it is safe to do so.

Do Not

  • Do not Touch or attempt to clean up the spill unless authorized.

  • Do not Break windows, as fresh air can intensify a fire.

  • Do not Re-enter the building or leave the muster area until instructed by emergency responders.
