Active Assailant
An active assailant is a person who is threatening or using deadly violence. If you encounter an active assailant, remember:
Run
- Leave the area immediately if it is safe.
- Leave belongings behind.
- Call 911 when you are safe, then notify Safety & Security Services.
Hide
- Go to a room that can be locked or barricaded.
- Turn off lights, silence your phone, and stay out of sight.
- Remain quiet until police instruct you to leave.
Fight
- As a last resort, if your life is in immediate danger, defend yourself using available objects and work with others if possible.
When Police Arrive
- Stay calm and follow all instructions.
- Keep your hands visible and empty.
Do not leave until directed by emergency responders.
