Maddison Chair Lecture: J. Michael MacDonald

Please join us for a public lecture on September 11 at 7pm with former Nova Scotia Supreme Court Justice, the Honourable J. Michael MacDonald.
Lecture Description: Gender-based violence (GBV) is an epidemic in Canada, requiring commensurate funding and a whole of society approach to properly address it. Well-intentioned community leaders (like me) may think they understand GBV without truly appreciating its pervasiveness, insidiousness, and devastating effects; not truly understanding how it permeates through almost every aspect of our society, every demographic; with the harm and consequences most acute within our marginalized communities. GBV impacts us all and it is time we (particularly men) appreciate this reality and step up to address it.
The Maddison Chair: Established in 1995, the Maddison Chair Lecture Series is named in honour of Harry Maddison, former Justice of the Yukon Supreme Court. A vocal defender of the independence of the judiciary, Justice Maddison served the Yukon with distinction for 30 years. The Maddison Chair invites a distinguished judge, lawyer, or scholar to make a public presentation on northern justice or related topics, providing a forum for dialogue and debate.
