“Dawson Workshop: Create” is part one of the workshop series “Create, Craft and Share” — a series of skill-building workshops for writers, poets, and storytellers.

Join renowned storyteller and author Ivan Coyote for three evening workshops geared towards helping you generate new original work. Ivan will help edit and fine tune your piece to make it stronger. Learn tips on bringing your work from the page to the stage.

Participating in the performance is optional, but writers are asked to attend all three nights of workshops.

The fee for all three workshops is $50 dollars and registration is limited - if the fee is a barrier, please contact kiac@kiac.ca, as we have a few subsidized spots available.

To register, email kiac@kiac.ca.

September 16th: Create

We’ll discuss strategies to generate new material and build a writing discipline to help you start and finish your play, poem, novel, or short story. Bring your laptop and/or pen and paper and be ready to write.

September 17th: Craft

We will talk about the editing process, outlines, structuring longer work, and putting together short story and poetry collections. This will be a chance to share your work in break-out groups and gather feedback to help you polish and fine-tune your writing. Bring a 3–5-minute selection of work to share with your break-out group.

September 18th: Share

We will go over the basics of material selection, timing and preparing your set, as well microphone technique and equipment for live performance. Writers will have a chance to have their work selected to showcase in front of a friendly and supportive audience of friends and family.
