Presented in partnership with the Maddison Chair in Northern Justice:

When law does not always equal justice: family law and violence against women

Women with children who flee a relationship in which they have been abused turn to family laws to make sure they and their kids will be safe. Unfortunately, because of many barriers, including ongoing myths and ignorance about the reality of intimate partner violence, too often they don’t get what they need. Pamela’s talk will explore the challenges women who have been abused face when they engage with family law, some of the reasons behind those challenges and recent changes to the law that offer hope and emerging issues for us to consider.
