Elizabeth Henry Scholarship
The Elizabeth Henry Scholarship is designed to support students who are working towards environmental sustainability of the North or promoting collaboration among diverse stakeholders in the North including Indigenous communities.
The scholarship was first created in British Columbia in 2014 with support from the Directors and the staff of the Fraser Basin Council to honour and remember Elizabeth Henry and her many contributions to the organization and to communities across British Columbia. Elizabeth exhibited high ethical standards and integrity in her work, and she was committed to promoting dialogue and respectful collaboration among diverse stakeholders. The intent of the Elizabeth Henry Scholarship is to support community leadership that reflects these values.
Starting in 2026, the Elizabeth Henry Scholarship Committee is excited to bring this scholarship to Yukon University to honour Elizabeth’s time growing up in the Yukon, her love of the North and her many contributions to the Yukon during this time. The Vancouver Foundation administers the Elizabeth Henry Scholarship fund, and the Elizabeth Henry Scholarship Committee, in collaboration with the Yukon University Student Awards Committee, evaluates applications and awards the scholarship.
NOTE: The first priority of the award is to recognize a student engaged in research at Yukon University in conjunction with either the Research Services Office (RSO) or the Yukon Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (YSPOR). This research must be related to environmental issues, or in the case of YSPOR, the interplay of environmental and health outcomes.
In the event of no applicants engaged in research, the award can be split into two $1000 awards, one award for a recipient in a program devoted to environmental protection (Earth Sciences, Renewable Resource Management, Northern Environmental and Conservation Sciences, Northern Studies, Northern Science, Northern Outdoor and Environmental Studies) and one award for a recipient in a program devoted to Indigenous capacity building (Indigenous Governance, First Nations Governance and Public Administration)
