Permafrost Researcher
YukonU Permafrost Researcher (term position at YukonU Research Centre)
Spring 2023 through December 2024 (We are flexible about a shorter duration, if desired, but require this position to start before summer 2023). Possibility of term extension into 2025, according to third-party funding.
Are you just finishing up a Master's or Bachelor's Degree related to permafrost and geoscience, and have experience with GIS?
The Permafrost Researcher role is a perfect blend of field, GIS, lab and office work that will be directly involved with:
- GIS analysis, map-making, spatial data management using ArcGIS and tablet-based field collector applications
- assisting with design of research activities and data collection
- permafrost core collection
- geophysical surveys (ERT)
- drone deployment to acquire aerial imagery of landscape features
- assisting with coordination and execution of field activities along Alaska and Dempster Highways
- lab work with samples
- contributing to reports, presentations, and proposals
- data management and processing
- equipment maintenance
- camping with camp trailer support
Candidates should be physically fit, willing to navigate off-trail for short distances while carrying equipment, take organized notes and demonstrate initiative and time management skills. GIS skills and driver's license required.
Work week 37.5 h, plus approved overtime during field work. Field work trips last from 2-10 days, min. 6 trips per year.
Wage commensurate with experience and training ($31.49 - $34.05) plus a benefits package.
