Yukon University is seeking a Counsellor to support the mental health, wellbeing, and academic success of our students. Reporting to the Manager of Student Support Services, the Counsellor plays a vital role in delivering confidential clinical counselling and wellness programming to a diverse student population.
This position supports student engagement, retention, and overall wellness by providing strength-based, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive counselling services. The Counsellor works both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, liaising with departments across the university and with community partners to ensure holistic support for students.
The ideal candidate will have the following experience and qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology, Social Work, or related field
• Current registration (or eligibility for registration) with a recognized professional regulatory body
• Experience providing clinical counselling to youth and/or post-secondary students
• Demonstrated experience with trauma-informed and equity-oriented counselling practices
• Strong ability to work both one-on-one and in group counselling formats
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
In addition, the following would be an asset:
• Experience delivering workshops or group sessions on wellness topics
• Familiarity with the unique challenges faced by students in Northern or rural communities
• Experience working in a post-secondary institution or educational setting
• Knowledge of Indigenous worldviews and cultural safety principles
• Ability to navigate virtual and in-person counselling delivery effectively
